So, I was sitting on the train eating a croissant when I realised that lately, I’ve been eating a lot of croissants.
It started when E, one of our friends at work, brought me a croissant for breakfast on some Saturday morning not long ago. It was from MJ’s favourite bakery. And for good reason, because it was crispier and fluffier and butterier than any croissant I’ve ever had, and whether or not you can tell from my extra bits, I’ve had many a croissant.
Since that day I’ve been waking up every morning thinking about croissants. Some mornings I had to leave home very early in the morning, and the croissants from the bakery near the station would still be warm and how can I say no. But I know that croissants are about a third butter and a regular sized one contains 279 calories and 16.5 grams of fat, so I’ve been eating half-croissants and giving leftovers to C, who I tried to convince that the bakery sold half-croissants that I bought for him out of consideration that he’s calorie-conscious, but my teeth marks probably ruined it.
My parents used to buy those big containers of mini-croissants from Woolworths and I wish I had thought of baking them in the oven for a few minues before eating them at the time, but even straight from the package they were delicious. You know how many I’d eat in one go? SIX. Which is roughly equivalent to 2.5 regular-sized croissants. Which is five times as much as I’d eat now, because ye old metabolism is not what it used to be.
The moral of this story is that croissants are delicious. They are however not worth getting fat for because nothing is. Except pregnancy. And even then that’s only provided the weight comes off after giving birth.
